As many of you know we live in Minneapolis and the killing of Renee Good is weighing very heavily over me today. Not only is this my city that I love so very much, Portland Avenue is my home. We live just down the street from where this occurred and I'm still processing what this all means for myself and my neighbors. This is a street where I walk my dog, where my neighbor's young child plays in the front yard, where our neighbor down the block drops off extra kale from his community garden to share with our rabbit Magnolia. The idea that ICE agents feel bold enough to walk onto my street and shoot someone in broad daylight and not even know that the government is going to prosecute a blatant murder caught on countless videos from every angle is honestly hard to even fully comprehend right now for us.
Our community has hosted observer training and encouraged people to document safely, but when agents aren't following the law or even basic decency none of that is enough to protect us. I do know that we'll keep fighting to push ICE out of our community but it will take time. For now the best I feel that I can do is to help raise money for Renee's children and wife via their fundraiser linked above.
